communities. Based upon our highly-respected,
much-imitated Bully-Proofing Your School program, Creating Caring Communities offers an in-depth program of comprehensive
school climate-change that provides a systems
approach for handling bully/victim problems
through the creation of a "caring community"
of students and adults. Our work focuses on supporting
schools and communities in the creation of a
positive, caring work environment that feels
safe and secure for all. We accomplish this
through a gradual process, changing the climate
of the school as members of the school and community
work together. The result is a safe, caring
school and community, encouraging supportive interpersonal relations and excellent academic
achievement. |
Numerous studies report that
many children across the nation are fearful
in their schools and in their neighborhoods.
This fear is not only due to the more extreme
forms of bullying and harassment that take place
daily in U.S. schools. When students feel unsafe
in their schools and/or in their neighborhoods,
they are not available for learning and can
suffer both physical and emotional consequences.
The issues of bullying and harassment in schools
and communities need to be addressed directly,
and members of the school community, both children
and adults, benefit from specific interventions
designed to empower them in working together
to intentionally create a safe and caring environment.
